Post by: ItalianZionist on November 17, 2025, 09:08:17 pm
I recall Chaim said the name Satmar comes from st mary in Romania. But I see the info below all over the internet. What is the truth?

"Satmar" refers to a Hasidic group from the city of Satu Mare, Romania, but the name does not mean "St. Mary's Jews". The name is the Yiddish version of Satu Mare, which means "large village" in Romanian. The group was founded by Grand Rebbe Joel Teitelbaum, who led the community in that city before re-establishing it in New York after World War II.

Although the galut mentality motivated “St Miriam”
boys are at best a ‘mixed bag’ of ‘Jewish adherence,’
they are not worse than Neturei Karta or Lev Tahor!
